Georgian Paste Dangle Earrings: Antique Sterling Silver Rivière Boucles d'Oreilles

True Georgian paste earrings with their silver cut down settings and closed backs. "Paste" is the name given to facetted leaded glass resembling diamond, the first diamond imitation in a sense! They are dangling from new sterling silver French wires. They most likely were some studs or part of a necklace at some point. The paste itself is an old cushion cut so it has this lovely squarish profile that is then set in a round rub-over setting, classic Georgian jewellery details. It has foil underneath to reflect the light even more and it set in place in the classic Georgian setting technique (also referred as "pie-crust, collet, cut-down setting"). The silver has a lovely original patina that enhance even more their brightness. They dangle from sterling silver new french wires and dance with you catching every bit of sunlight !
