Rare French 1819-1838 promise ring also known as gimmel (twin) fede or betrothal ring. In french, you will find it under the names "Bague de Foi" (faith ring) ou “Bague de Promesse” (promise ring). They served as engagement rings originally from the Vendee dpt in the Brittany region, and represented faithfulness and a promise of marriage. The design and composition are as follow: 2 gold bands become one as 2 hands meet and hold each Other and secure the ring closed. It is guaranteed a purity of minimum 18ct gold, bares the French hallmark of the ram’s head facing left. This hallmark was being used in France between 1819-1838. The sleeves are a slightly yellower gold than the rest of the ring, an aesthetic choice that we can often see in French antique jewellery. It is a rare item because most haven't survived the faith of being melted and sold for gold ! Ring size US 5 1/2 , EU 50 1/2 and UK K 1/2 The band is 1.5 mm at its thinnest The hands with cuffs are 20x5 mm with a height of 3mm Weight: 2 grams Thanks for reading!
