A wonderful and rather scarce Georgian rosette ring crafted with foiled rose-cut paste stones in solid silver, 12k rosy gold and an 18k white gold band. The white gold band was added later in Sweden and bares the following hallmarks: the 3 crowns of the Swedish coat of arms in a trefoil, MCC for the maker, the band tests at 18k gold. The rosette is composed of 9 foiled hand cut rose cut paste gems, they look a lot like Jargoon but test as glass, they are arranged as follow: a central round one of about 4mm ø 4 pear/oval ones of about 4x3mm and finally, 4 round ones of about 3mm ø All gems are surrounded by the classic Georgian silver cut-down or “rub over” setting. the rosette is gold backed in 12k rosy gold, not a gold wash, a real gold back! This together with the materials, the cut used and settings attests of its age and I date it at the late 1700’s or earlier and possibly of Iberic or Portuguese origins. All the hand-cut paste stones seems to be original and in good state, a couple exhibit some grazing but rather normal for its old age! The foil under the stones seems a bit dull, moisture has probably damage them a little but the facets of the rose cut stones easily bring it the reflection and brightness . As with any closed setting and foiled gemstones or paste jewellery, I would advise to be very careful when wearing it, and avoid water, moisture, lotions etc The dimension of the rosette is 17.5x17.5x5mm The ring size is: US 6 1/4, UK M, FR 52 it weighs 3.8grams Thank you for reading!
